Recent few rumors had been suggesting that Samsung will unveil the Galaxy Note 8 in August this year, just like the last year. However, a new report from VentureBeat claims that will not be the case. Instead, Samsung is tipped to officially unveil the Galaxy Note 8 at a Galaxy Unpacked event in the second half of September.
As you would expect, the Galaxy Note 8 is expected to offer quite a few major upgrades compared to the current Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ smartphones. While the phablet will be powered by the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 and Exynos 9 8895 chipsets as the Galaxy S8 duo, the octa-core chips will be paired with 6GB of RAM on the Galaxy Note 8. So far, the only Samsung Galaxy smartphone that we’ve seen with 6GB of RAM is the Galaxy C9 Pro. The phablet will include a 6.3-inch sized Super AMOLED display with the same Infinity Display design and the unique 18.5:9 aspect ratio.
In addition to being Samsung’s first flagship with 6GB of RAM, the Galaxy Note 8 is also going to be the first Galaxy flagship with a dual-camera setup at the back. The report claims Samsung will be using a 12MP + 12MP dual-camera solution, with each sensor getting independent optical image stabilization. Both sensors will be laid out next to each other horizontally, with the flash and heart rate sensor placed on the right. The fingerprint sensor too will be positioned on the same plane as the camera sensors, although the gap will be a little wider than on the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+.
After the Galaxy Note 7 debacle, it looks like Samsung simply does not want to take any risk with a big battery. Which is probably why it decided to go with a small-ish 3300mAh capacity battery for the Galaxy Note 8. For professionals, Samsung will offer improved split-screen multitasking and other improved S-Pen features such as full-sentence language translation, currency conversion, and the ability to pin handwritten notes to the always-on display. DeX functionality will be supported as well, allowing you to convert the Galaxy Note 8 into a full-fledged Android PC with the DeX Station.
Samsung reportedly believes that the above upgrades are enough to make the Galaxy Note 8 its most impressive flagship yet, deserving a higher price tag than any previous Samsung smartphone. That’s right. According to the report, Galaxy Note 8 will carry a retail price of 999EUR in Europe. In the states, the phablet is likely to carry a full retail price of around $900. As for color options, the Galaxy Note 8 will be available black, blue and gold shades at launch.
